Elf on the Shelf

Well, the Elf has arrived. It has been fun having Chris around for the last week. The kids found him on Monday sitting in the tissues. Tuesday he was on our Christmas sign. Wednesday he was hanging from the ceiling. By Wednesday, one little boy told me that I had to be the one moving him around. I told him that I came in the room and Chris was hanging on the ceiling. It was so funny. He just started telling everyone that our classroom was magic. LOL! It was so cute to here him go on and on. Then, Thursday Chris the elf was in the cafeteria eating breakfast. Friday, he was having  a paper ball fight with a bear, Polar bear, and a Christmas cat. I cant wait to see what happens next week. I will be taking pictures so that you can see all our fun.

Veteran's Day

Veteran's Day is just around the corner. I have worked on a mini unit that I hope that all will enjoy. Just visit my TPT store. BTW, I love all you guys out there who is following me. You make me smile.

Daily Fix It Up

With all the new Common Core Standards and time constraints. It is really important to find a way to help students practice some basic skills. Well, I have been working for the last 2 weeks to come up with a way to help kids with the conventions of writing. It is the Daily Fix It up. It is 180 days of daily sentence structure. You can purchase it form my TPT page. I hope that you enjoy it. I am working on a unit now to go with the new Common Core Social Studies I just received over Goods and Services.

NEW UNIT

Well , I have uploaded a great unit about pumpkins. I am very excited for it. Please go and check it out. My kids and I will be starting it in the 2 weeks. I am even taking them to the pumpkin farm in Springfield, TN. I am SUPER excited. If you would like to check out the unit just go to my TPT sight. I will upload pictures as soon as I get some .

Great start to the year!

Well I have to say that I have the sweetest 2nd graders this year. They are such a joy to teach. This year I am the writing teacher for my cluster. It had been difficult to get all my standards in when I lose about 12-15 kids for an hour. Any way I wanted you to see my sweet kiddos in my Harry potter glasses. I hope to have some new things uploaded to teachers pay teachers soon. Working hard on some forms for teachers and some word wall cards.

Changed My Name

I decided that I needed to change the name of the blog. So instead of the sassy 2nd graders, I decided that it was better to be the sassy teacher. I hope you guys like that better. I am working on creating a facebook page as well.

Another Year about to start

So another year is about to begin. I have open house on July 30 and opening day on August 1. Then, my kiddos on August 2nd. I am nervous because I am switching what I am doing. I am going to be teaching Writing. I think that the only survival will be the strategies that I have learned from Whole Brain Teaching. If you don't know what that is, then you should go and check out that site. Just click on that link. I have learned all kinds of cool techniques for the classroom.

I discovered WBT when I was on maternity with my 2nd child. I fell in love because I had THE worse class of my 12 years of teaching and there was no getting through to them. Well, WBT saved my life. I used the Teach/Okay, Scoreboard, and Super Speed 100 all the time. It helped me to survive. I will go into more details, in another post. I thought today that I would show you a power point that I got from Pinterest. I absolutely love that site. The Power-point is designed to give students my expectations. I will not claim this as my idea. I got it from What the Teacher Wants site. I just changed some things around to work with my class. I hope mine does her's justice.

Well, in the next couple of days, I will be telling you about my new love of WBT.

See ya soon,
Melinda

Observation Time

Well, I'm a tenure teacher and this is my year to be evaluated. So this week is the BIG week. You know, I don't know why I worry so much. I mean really I work hard all the time. I just wish that this would have been done 2 weeks ago. I just hate when people try to make you feel intimidated. SERIOUSLY!!!! Any way, I am done with my venting. Just pray that all goes well. I will try and take pictures of the actual lesson because my 1st graders are going to have author's PIE! See ya soon.

BTW: THX to my new follower Vicky1970. I hope that I will be able to give you some ideas. Also, I hope to upload a power point I did on Point of View.

Kid Spelling

Don't you just love kid inventive spelling. It makes me laugh every time a student uses it. Well, my students were working on writing 3 sentences using the words that have the ending nt, nd, nk, or mp. So when I saw this students work, I asked if she would let me put in on the blog. She smiled and said "Yes, Mrs. King!" Sweet Girl!!!! Here it is:
WARING: There is a not so nice word written in the picture!!!!

If you look closely at number 1 and 2 you will see why I had to post it. For those who cant read what she was trying to say. It says: A king wore pants on land. A chimp wore pants and a banana. LOL I love my kiddos. They rock!

I LOVE Giveaways...

if only I every won one. Well, I have my fingers crossed on this one. Ashley Reed from Just Reed blog is having an awesome give away. I so I am hoping to get some followers and they will check it out.
Also, I will be posting some pictures of some of my new reading reward incentives that I have going for my 3 reading classes. See ya soon.

Character traits

My classes are working on character traits. We are reading Arthur by Marc Brown books. Here is the anchor chart and the start of the bulletin board. This is the Kinders work.
Also I am posting pictures of my CAFE wall and Drops in the Bucket display. There is my word of the day display. I use the word of the day for all transitions. I saw it on the teaching channel.com. The teacher's name is was Ms. Noonan.
The last picture was an idea I got from Mrs. Jump's class blog. I just changed some of it to match my class.
